Here comes Nikola Topić, the Serbian basketball player who won an NBA championship ring with the Oklahoma City Thunder without playing a single game! Yes, you read that right – due to a severe knee injury before joining the NBA, Topić didn’t play a single minute this season but still became the third youngest player in league history to win a title. While other young talents had to fight on the court, he watched from the sidelines as the Thunder clinched their first title since relocating from Seattle. And yes, Darko Miličić is the only Serbian player who won an NBA ring at a younger age, but at least he played in the finals! Topić, however, became a unique case in NBA history – a champion without any playing time. Is this proof that injury is a new opportunity for slackers or just sports irony?
