From 2026, Spain replaces safety triangles with blinking lights.

Starting from January 1, 2026, in Spain, the traditional safety triangle will be replaced by a special flashing light on highways and fast roads. This change also applies to rental cars, so tourists need to be informed about the new rules. According to the ADAC, the new system offers advantages such as greater visibility up to one kilometer and resistance to adverse weather conditions. The light is connected to the mobile network and sends the vehicle’s location every 100 seconds to the Spanish traffic authorities.
