13 miners died in a Mali gold mine flood.

In a gold mine in southwestern Mali, 13 unqualified miners, including women and three children, were killed after a section of the mine flooded. The accident occurred in an open-pit mine near the village of Danga. A reservoir of dirty water spilled into the tunnel where miners were digging. In West Africa, it is common for mining to involve women and children, and deadly accidents often occur due to unregulated mining methods. Last year, in the same district, over 70 people died due to a mine collapse.
