Customs Revenue Explosion in Montenegro: Real Economic Boom or Just Misleading Numbers?

Ready for some jaw-dropping numbers from Montenegro? Customs revenues from January to May this year have skyrocketed by a whopping 8.14% compared to the same period last year! A total of 539.6 million euros was collected, which is 39.17 million more than before. But wait, there’s more — gross revenues according to the plan are nearly 4% higher, meaning the state is not just filling the budget, it’s doing better than expected.

Import VAT rose by 7.73%, bringing in an extra 25.04 million euros. Excise duties also jumped by 7.61%, with collections of 143.11 million euros, which is 10.18 million more than last year. Customs duties surged by a massive 17.27%, totaling 26.3 million euros, 3.87 million more than before. Coffee tax? Yep, that added 1.05 million euros in revenue.
