Imagine a place where bodies were dumped, buried in garbage and asbestos, at a depth of 17 meters, and families had no idea for years where their loved ones were! Petrovačka Dola, once a massive waste dump, has turned into the largest mass grave of the Homeland War, with over 2000 human bones found. Investigations lasted two years, and just this year, 35 victims have been identified, including 19 Croatian defenders and 16 civilians, among them four women. Among the remains are those of Franjo Ivoš and Tomislav Plavšić, whose horrific fate has finally been uncovered.
What’s even more horrifying is that the bodies were initially buried, then dug up and reburied, mixed with animal bones and waste, in an attempt to cover up the crimes. The Security and Intelligence Agency (SOA) revealed that criminals used this site to hide evidence, leading to exhaustive excavations and searches through massive amounts of waste.
Tomo Medved, the Minister of Veterans, emphasizes that the investigation is not over and will continue until all missing persons are found. This grave is just the tip of the iceberg, and the number of victims may still rise. The Croatian state and its institutions remain committed to seeking justice and truth.
This tragedy casts a dark shadow over the Homeland War and reminds us how important it is not to forget and to continue the fight for justice. If you think this is distant history, think again — the truth lies beneath layers of garbage and oblivion, and justice is still far from being served. What do you think about this? Could such things still be hidden right before our eyes? Share your thoughts, maybe together we can uncover even darker secrets.
