In the heart of Mexico, in the city of Irapuato, a horrific massacre has shocked the world. Armed attackers stormed a house during a religious celebration and cold-bloodedly killed 10 people, including children. Yes, you read that right – children were among the victims of this heinous crime! The shooting took place in the state of Guanajuato, which has been the deadliest region in Mexico for years due to violent conflicts between drug cartels. According to preliminary data, besides the 10 dead, several others were injured, and an investigation is underway. Guanajuato is an industrial and tourist hub but also the deadliest state in Mexico with the highest number of homicides last year. Most of the violence is linked to the battle between the Santa Rosa de Lima gang and the Jalisco New Generation cartel, one of the most powerful in the country. This bloody fight for territory and control over drug trafficking has claimed thousands of lives and left many families devastated.
Another similar attack happened just days earlier when armed attackers raided a party in Irapuato and killed 12 people, including a child. Guests were dancing to live music when the shooting abruptly ended the celebration. Attacks on public gatherings, especially those involving children, have unfortunately become common in this part of Mexico.
