Pakovraće Požega Highway: Chinese Bridges, Tunnels, and Speed to Montenegro

Pakovraće-Požega Highway: Chinese Bridges, Tunnels, and Speed to Montenegro!

Imagine a highway nearly 31 kilometers long, where one-third of the route consists of bridges, overpasses, and tunnels. Yes, you read that right! On the Pakovraće-Požega section, part of Corridor 11 connecting Belgrade and Montenegro, 33 bridges, 11 overpasses, and three large tunnels have been built, including the longest road tunnel in Serbia – the Laz tunnel, 2,200 meters long.

This highway is not just an ordinary road but an engineering marvel, designed for speeds of 120 km/h, with two lanes and an emergency lane in each tunnel tube, ensuring high safety standards. The project cost is around 300 million euros, and the contractor is the Chinese company CCCC, highlighting China’s serious investment in Serbia’s infrastructure.

The already opened Preljina-Pakovraće section of 11 kilometers has shown how much this highway can shorten and ease travel. With the new section, driving from Belgrade to Požega will be significantly shorter and safer, and the trip to Zlatibor will take about two hours – a dream for tourists and locals alike.

The strategic importance of this section is huge – it is a continuation of Corridor 11 towards the Montenegro border, specifically the future route to Duga Poljana and Boljari. Dozens of bridges, tunnels, and interchanges are planned, enabling faster and more efficient connectivity between Serbia and Montenegro, strengthening the transport of people and goods, as well as the tourism potential of western Serbia.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić personally visited the final works at the Laz tunnel and confirmed that the highway opening is imminent. This project is expected to bring a revolution in transport and the region’s economy.

Ready to forget about long traffic jams and narrow, dangerous roads? This highway is here to give you a dream drive! And if you have any funny stories about Serbian roads, share them in the comments – maybe it’s time for all of us to laugh at the old, bad roads while enjoying the new highways!

Chinese Company CCCC and Serbian Infrastructure: Love at First Sight?

Chinese company CCCC is the contractor for this highway, and their role in building infrastructure in Serbia is becoming increasingly significant. With an investment of around 300 million euros, they have shown readiness to take on large projects and see them through.

This cooperation is not only economic but also political, as such projects strengthen ties between Serbia and China. But is everything so perfect? Some critics warn about possible quality and long-term sustainability issues, but for now, the Pakovraće-Požega highway looks like a success story.

Why Is This Highway Important for Tourism and Economy?

Thanks to this highway, travel to Zlatibor and other tourist destinations in western Serbia will be faster and safer. This means more tourists, more money in local communities, and stronger regional development.

Also, better connectivity with Montenegro opens new opportunities for trade and cooperation, which can contribute to economic growth in both countries.

Conclusion: New Highway, New Era!

The Pakovraće-Požega highway is not just a road – it is a symbol of progress, cooperation, and the future. With Chinese bridges, tunnels, and modern standards, the region gains a transport artery that will change the way we travel and do business.
