Forest Invest: The Seven Year Battle for Serbian Forests and Energy Security

The Forest Revolution Has Begun!

Did you know that Serbia is launching the biggest reforestation project in its history? Yes, you read that right! Forest Invest, worth a whopping 84 million dollars, has officially started and plans to transform Serbian forests and the country’s energy security over the next seven years.

What is Forest Invest?

This project, supported by the FAO and the Green Climate Fund, aims to strengthen the resilience of Serbian forests, ensure energy security for the most vulnerable, and contribute to carbon storage. The kickoff workshop was held in Belgrade, gathering representatives from the public and private sectors, international organizations, academia, and civil society.

Massive Plans and Investments

The plan is to plant new forests in areas where there were none before and convert degraded forests into high-quality ones. JP Srbijašume will receive equipment worth about 1.8 million dollars to boost seedling production, aiming to produce around 10 million seedlings annually — double the current amount!

Why Does This Matter?

The project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8.4 million tons of CO2 equivalent, positively impacting nearly three million people across Serbia. Besides ecological benefits, JP Srbijašume expects additional revenue and profit, making this project economically sustainable.

Who’s Behind It?

Besides FAO and the Green Climate Fund, partners include the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, and JP Vojvodinašume. The Serbian government is providing strong support, and JP Srbijašume is ready to engage experts and young forestry professionals to realize this ambitious plan.

What’s Next?

Over the next seven years, large areas will be reforested, Serbia’s forest cover will increase, and resilience to climate change will be strengthened. This is not just a project — it’s a forest revolution that could change Serbia’s future!

Are you ready to watch Serbia become a leader in reforestation in this part of Europe? Or do you think it’s just another empty promise? Share your thoughts, because the forest can’t wait!
