Night of Literature and Film: ‘Odakle zovem’ Festival Brings French Stories and Controversial Film on Vaclav Havel

Get ready for a night that will throw you right into the heart of literature and film! The 16th International Literary Festival “Odakle zovem”, organized by Karver Bookstore, promises a cultural spectacle. Tonight kicks off with the promotion of the second edition of the book “Les Nouvelles” – a collection of short stories by five significant contemporary Montenegrin authors translated into French.

Editor Aleksandar Bečanović and translators like Ivana Jablan and Dubravka Vuletić have worked hard to give the French audience a true insight into Montenegrin literature. But that’s not all! The festival continues with a program dedicated to Vaclav Havel, the legendary Czech dissident and president, through discussions and the screening of the film “Havel” directed by Slavek Horak.

The film “Havel” draws attention by portraying the fight against totalitarianism and the power of political engagement in art. After the screening, the audience will have the chance to participate in a discussion with director Ivan Marinović and festival manager Varja Đukić.

To end the evening, there will be a screening of the short film “Lines of Separation: The Palestinian Exception” produced by Al Jazeera, investigating the influence of the pro-Israel lobby on media voices about Palestine. This film is a real bombshell that will make you rethink media manipulation and political games.

The “Odakle zovem” festival is not just a cultural event but a place where art, politics, and social critique intertwine. If you like to be made to think, laugh, or get outraged – this is the right place for you.

So, dear readers, what do you think? Can art really change the world? Or is it all just a show for the masses? Drop a comment, spark a debate, or just share your favorite writer or film from the festival!**
