Shocking Final Exam Results: Do Our Eighth Graders Really Know Serbian and Math?

Dear parents and everyone who thinks education in Serbia is top-notch – brace yourselves for a cold shower! The final exam results for this year are out, and they are far from impressive. The average score in Serbian language is just 11.61, and math is 11.63 out of 20! Yes, you read that right. Our eighth graders, the future of our nation, barely pass half the test. And it gets worse – tests in minority languages are even lower, with averages like 9.30 in Bosnian, 9.60 in Romanian, and only 9.78 in Bulgarian. Is this a sign that our education system is in deep trouble, or are the kids just lazy? Or maybe both?

But wait, there’s more! Students could choose one of five subjects: geography, biology, history, physics, or chemistry. Most picked geography (46.5%), and the least popular was chemistry (6.3%). Average scores are a bit better than languages but still disappointing: chemistry and physics hover around 15.8 and 15.7 points, while history is at 14.02. Is it because these subjects are harder or because teachers do a better job?

Here’s another shocker – 63,000 eighth graders took the final exam in June, which is 99.7% of all students. Almost everyone showed up, but the results are far from ideal. Complaints about preliminary results can be filed until 3 PM today, and final results will be published on June 30.

This isn’t just statistics – it’s a wake-up call for all of us! Will we let our kids leave elementary school with such poor knowledge? Or will we finally start questioning what’s wrong with our schools, teachers, and system? If you have an opinion, don’t keep it to yourself – share it, laugh, or get mad, but let the voice of the people be heard!
