Imagine this – Zagreb will be completely shut down on July 5th due to the Marko Perković Thompson concert! Yes, you read that right. From Friday night until Sunday morning, the Kajzerica and Zapruđe neighborhoods will be closed to all traffic. And that’s just the beginning!
City office head Andro Pavuna explained that traffic closures will happen in three phases. Phase one means a total traffic shutdown in Kajzerica and Zapruđe from Friday night to Sunday morning. Phase two involves closing Avenija Dubrovnik and Sr Njemačke street on Saturday, with police deciding on additional pedestrian zones depending on crowd size. Phase three is optional and concerns closing Jadranska avenija and Čvor Lučko only if absolutely necessary.
Imagine the traffic jams! The Most Slobode, Jadranski most, and Most Mladosti bridges will be closed to motor traffic from 4 PM on July 5th until 2 AM on July 6th, except for emergency vehicles. The southern part of Zagreb will be practically cut off from the city center.
The city urges all residents to avoid using cars and switch to public transport or organized shuttles. For those who must drive, the advice is to park in higher zones and use shuttle buses.
Police will deploy special units to prevent pickpocketing and monitor crowd flows, while stewards will oversee pedestrian safety. It all sounds like Zagreb will be under siege, and you’ll be trapped in a traffic nightmare if you don’t have a good plan.
While the city tries to organize every detail, the big question remains – will the system handle such a logistical challenge? Will thousands of vehicles and pedestrians flow smoothly, or will we all end up stuck in kilometer-long lines? We’ll only know after July 5th.
So, if you’re planning shopping, outings, or any activities in Zagreb that weekend, better do them earlier or cancel altogether. Or, if you’re an adventurer, brace yourself for the traffic chaos and share your wildest stories from that day with us. Who knows, maybe you’ll be the star of our next traffic drama!
