Tax Inspection in Montenegro: Half a Million Euros in Fines for Ignoring Fiscalization!
From May 1 to June 22 this year, tax inspectors in Montenegro cracked down hard! They checked the business operations of taxpayers, focusing especially on hospitality and trade sectors, and found irregularities in 93 entities. The biggest issue? Failure to issue fiscal receipts, which is a direct violation of the law on fiscalization of goods and services turnover.
As a result, fines totaling over half a million euros were issued! To be precise, the total amount of fines issued is around 500,000 euros, with only 53% of that amount collected so far. The Tax Administration urges all taxpayers to comply with the law, properly report their income, and issue fiscal receipts. This is not just bureaucratic red tape — it’s the key to a responsible tax system and a stable, transparent business environment in Montenegro.
Citizens are also called upon to be active and report any irregularities via the call center or the “Be Responsible” platform. So, if you notice your favorite café not giving you a receipt, now is the time to report it — because breaking the law is expensive!
This tax inspection campaign sends a clear message: you can’t cheat the state without consequences anymore. But will fines and inspections be enough to fix the problem? Or will millions of euros continue to circulate under the table? Share your thoughts — is this the beginning of the end for the tax evasion mafia or just another show for the public?
In any case, if you own a café or a store, better get ready — inspectors are not sleeping, and the fines are serious. And you, dear readers, if you have an interesting story about not receiving receipts or other tax irregularities, you know where to leave a comment. Let the voice of the people be heard!
Why is fiscalization important? Fiscalization is a system that enables transparent tracking of turnover and prevents tax evasion. When fiscal receipts are not issued, the state loses millions of euros, which means less money for schools, hospitals, and roads. That’s why it’s important for everyone to follow the law.
How much money is involved? In just two months, inspectors issued fines worth more than half a million euros. That’s serious money that could be used for the country’s development, but instead ends up in the budget thanks to fines.
What do the tax authorities say? The Tax Administration clearly states: “Act in accordance with the law!” Irregularities will not be tolerated, and citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities. This is a fight for a fairer and more transparent system for all of us.
Is this the end of tax fraud? Hard to say. The fines are high, but the question is how much the inspection can cover all violations. Still, it’s clear the state is determined to crack down on dishonest taxpayers.
If you thought tax inspection was just boring bureaucracy, think again! This fight for honesty in business is more important than ever. And you, what do you think — will fines force everyone to follow the rules, or will cheating continue? Drop a comment, let your voice be heard!
