Belgrade Pride and Macut’s ‘LGBT Agenda’: Battle for Serbia’s Soul or Just Another Political Soap Opera?

Welcome to the latest episode of Serbia’s political soap opera where Prime Minister Đura Macut drops a bombshell: “The LGBT agenda cannot be accepted in Serbia!” Is this his personal opinion or official government policy? Belgrade Pride isn’t having it and immediately calls him out, reminding everyone that Ana Brnabić, who has been raising a child with her partner, led the same government for years.

Macut told Russian agency TASS that Serbia is a nation with “deeply rooted tradition, culture, and spirituality,” where “family values hold central importance.” Translation: the LGBT community is unacceptable because it contradicts “traditional Christian values.”

Belgrade Pride fires back, calling his statement discriminatory and dehumanizing. They remind us of the 16 people who died in a corrupt chain of irresponsibility, students beaten with baseball bats while demanding justice, and those under house arrest who raised their voices against injustice.

“Serbia cannot pick and choose which citizens are ‘worthy’ and which are ‘enemies of tradition,'” Belgrade Pride says. LGBT people aren’t some ‘agenda’ — they are citizens who live, work, pay taxes, and raise children in Serbia.

While Macut defends “family values” on camera, Belgrade Pride vows to defend rights on the streets — with truth, not hate.

This drama isn’t just political; it’s a social battle for Serbia’s identity in an era of globalization and rapid change. Will Serbia stay stuck in the past or embrace all its citizens?
