Milan Rakić and the Kosovo Myth: Are We Really Unworthy of History?

Vidovdan at Gazimestan, where fearless and flawless heroes fought, today we are told we are unworthy of our history! Milan Rakić, poet and warrior, was the first to liberate Pristina, and his poem about Gazimestan still echoes like thunder. But who defends such poems today? Have foreigners banned them? While Kosovo and Metohija celebrate the bloody battle, in Serbia and Montenegro some try to erase that history and its heroes. Rakić was not just a poet but a warrior who stood with his troop at the very place where emperors and heroes fell. His words about courage, sacrifice, and love for the homeland today sound like a challenge to those who call us unworthy. Have we really lost that strength? Or are we just forgetting who we are? This poem and the story of Rakić remind us that history is not just the past but a living fight for identity and dignity. If it seems history is forgotten, maybe it’s time to ask who wants that and why. What do you think? Is it time to stand again in the ranks of our ancestors and defend what is ours? Or will we let others write our story? Share your thoughts, maybe your word will awaken the spirit of Gazimestan!
