War or Not? Senate Says: Trump Can Do Whatever He Wants!
The U.S. Senate just showed that the Constitution is more like wall decor! With a 53 to 47 vote, mostly Republicans, they rejected a resolution that would have stopped President Donald Trump from using military force against Iran without Congress’s approval.
This all happened just hours after Trump himself threatened new bombings of Iran if Tehran continues enriching uranium to weapons-grade levels. So, while the world trembles, the Senate says: “Let the president do whatever he wants, lives are at stake!”
Democrat Tim Kaine, who proposed the resolution, has been fighting for years to return the constitutional war-declaring power to Congress, but it seems like a lost cause. He clearly stated that the Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the sole right to declare war. But who listens to the Constitution when power is on the line?
Interestingly, the votes mostly followed party lines, but Democrat John Fetterman from Pennsylvania surprised by voting against the resolution, while Republican Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky sided with the Democrats.
After closed briefings by Trump’s national security team about U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, many Democrats said they weren’t convinced the sites were destroyed, unlike Trump’s immediate claims after the operation.
Opponents of the resolution argue it was a limited military action within the president’s powers as commander-in-chief, not the start of a prolonged war. Senator Bill Hagerty, a Republican from Tennessee, warned that the proposed measure could prevent any president from quickly reacting to a long-term enemy. “We must not tie the president’s hands in a crisis when lives are at stake,” he said before the vote.
So, while the world watches, the U.S. Senate decided the president can make moves unchecked, and we’re left wondering: where’s the line? If this all seems normal to you, maybe you’re used to the chaos. If not, feel free to drop a comment and share your thoughts—is this the start of a new war or just another political show?
Either way, keep your popcorn ready, because this is just getting started!
