Dubonja Massacre: Why Is 20 Years for Uroš Blažić an Insult to the Victims?

Imagine this – Uroš Blažić, the monster who cold-bloodedly killed three young people on May 4th in the villages of Malo Orašje and Dubonja, got only 20 years in prison! Yes, you read that right – twenty years for a mass murder that shook Serbia to its core. His father, Radiša Blažić, was sentenced to the same term, and the victims’ fathers cannot believe the legal system can be so heartless and unjust. Saša Panić, father of one of the victims, openly criticizes the law which, in his opinion, values human life less than the punishment for killing a pet or a wild animal. “How is it possible that someone who killed three young people gets the same sentence as his father?” he asks, while Milosav Todorović, father of another victim, fears that Blažić, if released early, will continue to threaten and kill their families.

This verdict is not just a number on paper – it’s a message that justice in Serbia is on shaky ground. The law allows a maximum of 20 years for such crimes, leaving the victims’ families with a bitter taste of injustice and fear for the future. The confiscation of weapons and ammunition has been done, but is that enough? Is 20 years in prison for a mass murderer really a punishment that reflects the gravity of his deeds?

Clearly, the system has failed, and the question is who will pay the price of this injustice next. While justice drags slowly, the victims’ families remain to live in fear and pain. If you care even a little about justice, maybe it’s time to ask yourself – is this really the end or just the beginning of a new tragedy? And you, what do you think about this verdict? Is 20 years enough for a mass murderer or is it an insult to all of us? Drop a comment, let the voice of justice be heard!
