The scorching heat in Vranje shows no mercy, and locals have found their salvation in the Jumko company pool, renovated five years ago and now a beloved spot for cooling off. On Tuesday, temperatures soared to a blistering 33 degrees Celsius. The pool operates daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, offering daily tickets priced to suit different groups – adults pay 300 dinars, children aged 4 to 10 pay 150 dinars, and kids under 4 get in free. Jumko employees and their families enjoy free access. Besides the pool, visitors can indulge in a restaurant with affordable prices, barbecue, pancakes, and sports facilities including golf and football fields. The pool is Olympic-sized (50×25 meters) and staffed by two professional lifeguards. Every year, investments are made to renovate and improve the facilities; this year, new stands and swings were added. The city of Vranje and Jumko jointly organize summer water games and a swimming school. But while people cool off and enjoy themselves, the big question remains: is a local pool enough to tackle the increasing heat waves and climate changes affecting us all? Is it time to seriously consider public cooling spots and infrastructural solutions for all citizens? Or will we keep waiting for salvation to come only to those lucky enough to reach the pool? Got thoughts? Drop them in the comments – maybe your idea is the game-changer we need!
