Alen Vitasović: Three Decades of Career, Personal Struggles, and a Comeback

Alen Vitasović, one of the most recognizable singer-songwriters on the Croatian music scene, is celebrating three decades of a rich career this fall. His big concert at Zagreb’s Lisinski Hall on November 11 is not just a return to the big stage but a celebration of a life filled with music, personal challenges, and wisdom.

Born in Pula into a musical family, Vitasović showed interest in the accordion at the age of five. At twelve, he formed his first band and performed throughout Istria. Over the years, he mastered several instruments and gained experience performing across Croatia, Slovenia, and Europe. His first solo song “Ne moren bež nje” in 1992 became a huge hit, launching him among the most popular performers.

The Lisinski concert will be a retrospective of his career, featuring old and new songs, without special guests but with surprises. Vitasović says the return to the stage doesn’t excite him but fills him with happiness and satisfaction.

Although he celebrated 30 years of his career last year with the cult album “Gušti gušti,” Vitasović remains active. He constantly creates and records new songs, with his latest big hit being the duet “Brajde” with Lima Lena, beloved by both children and adults.

Unfortunately, in his personal life, Vitasović recently spoke publicly about his breakup with his wife Eleonora, whom he still describes as a wonderful woman. He has also openly discussed his battle with alcoholism, emphasizing that it is a true personal struggle and that he understands the issue better than many.

Vitasović is one of the few artists awarded the Order of Danica Hrvatska with the image of Marko Marulić for his contribution to culture, personally presented by President Franjo Tuđman.

Regarding new generations and the Croatian music scene, Vitasović admits he does not follow them, motivated only by fruitful creativity and the desire to leave a mark.

In conclusion, he advises young musicians never to give up, to work and practice regardless of circumstances. His story proves that persistence and sincerity in music pay off, even when life brings tough challenges.

If you thought the music scene was all glamour and ease, Alen Vitasović teaches otherwise — behind every success lies a struggle, and true strength is in honesty and perseverance. So, do you have your own “Brajde” keeping you afloat? Or have you already sunk? Share your thoughts, maybe together we’ll find the answer!
