Žiža Stojanović, the legendary actress best known for her role as Cana Fontana in the series “Happy People,” passed away on June 27 at the age of 95. The news shook many, announced by TV host Goran Stojićević Karamela, who emotionally said goodbye to his friend. Žiža left behind a rich acting legacy and a life story full of love, pain, and hardships.

Her greatest love was the artist Duško Bulajić, with whom she spent two years. Although he later married actress Olivera Marković, Žiža openly spoke about her love for Duško, admitting he loved her but life was harsh and complicated. Later, she was married to actor Vladislav Matić for seven years, but her love for Duško remained her strongest emotional memory.

Besides romantic turmoil, Žiža had a tough life story. Her daughter Sonja passed away after a long and difficult illness, deeply affecting the actress. Still, Žiža had joys — two grandchildren: grandson Uroš, a conductor in Germany, and granddaughter Ana, who graduated in pharmacy.

Life was never easy. She remembered war, hunger, and fears about the future. Yet, her love for acting was her strength. She recalled walking barefoot to an audition during the war, where a professor immediately recognized her talent and gave her the role of Koštana, for which she earned four thousand dinars — a huge sum at the time. The whole city applauded her performance.

Žiža Stojanović remains remembered as an icon of domestic cinema and a woman who faced life with courage and dignity. Her death marks the end of an era, but her story and the character of Cana Fontana live on in the hearts of the audience.
