Serbian Athletics on the Brink of Survival in European Team League: Will We Drop to the Third League?

The Serbian athletics team is gearing up for a do-or-die battle at the European Team Championships Second League, taking place on June 28-29 in Maribor. The goal? To maintain their status among the best middle-European teams and avoid the shameful drop to the third league.

Coach Edin Zuković has gathered the elite of Serbian athletics, from seasoned champions to young talents who have shown exceptional potential this season. The team includes national record holder and European champion Ivana Španović, European junior champion Angelina Topić, world vice-champion in javelin Adriana Vilagoš, as well as experienced competitors like Elzan Bibić, Ara Sinančević, Milica Gardašević, and Aleksa Kijanović.

But it’s not all rosy. Serbia will have representatives in all disciplines, but the competition is fierce. Twelve teams are competing, and the lowest-ranked teams will be relegated to the third league. Every point, every jump, every meter thrown could be decisive.

Zuković is clear: “Our primary goal is to stay in the second league. We have the quality, experience, and willpower, and I believe we can achieve this goal. It’s crucial that every team member gives their maximum and contributes to the collective success.”

This is not just a sports competition; it’s a fight for Serbia’s prestige in European athletics. Will our champions withstand the pressure and keep their place among the best? Or will we watch Serbia fall to a lower rank, which would be a huge blow to our athletics?
