Split Airport and Ferry Port See Huge Passenger Surge This Summer

Split Airport and Ferry Port are experiencing a massive passenger boom this weekend! Reports show that around 49,000 passengers will pass through Split Airport in both directions, while the ferry port to the islands and from the islands to Split will see about 63,000 passengers. Mate Melvan, head of passenger handling at Split Airport, says this is the busiest weekend so far this year. In the first five months of this year, passenger numbers increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, and passenger numbers in July and August are also expected to rise, though not at the double-digit rates seen in the first half of the year. Jelena Ivulić, head of Jadrolinija’s office for the Split maritime area, notes that ferry port traffic remains at last year’s level, with about 63,000 passengers this weekend. A slight increase in vehicle traffic in the city port compared to last year is also expected. Due to the high number of passengers, an extraordinary ferry line Split-Petar has been introduced. This surge in passengers highlights a strong tourist season and increased mobility during the summer months, which is great news for the local economy but also a challenge for port organization and logistics. If you’re planning to travel, brace yourself for crowds and enjoy the summer season! Have you already passed through Split’s port this summer or planning to? Share your experience, maybe you have some tips for fellow travelers stuck in the crowd!
