Kristina Ivanuš: From SOS Children’s Village to Motherhood A Story That Will Hit You Hard

Imagine a life that begins in chaos and violence, where childhood is marked by fear and insecurity. Kristina Ivanuš, now 26 and pregnant, didn’t just survive such a fate — she became a symbol of strength and hope for many. Born in Zabok, Kristina spent her early years in a dysfunctional family where her father abused her mother and children. At just four years old, she and her sister Anamarija were placed in an SOS Children’s Village in Lekenik, a place that became their true home. But life didn’t stop there. At age six, she was diagnosed with a rare peripheral nerve disease, causing frequent falls and tingling in her legs. Despite everything, Kristina fully recovered by 18, thanks to sports and her determination.

Last year, Kristina received the prestigious Herman Gmeiner Award, given to successful children from SOS Children’s Villages worldwide. Her story touched hearts across Croatia and beyond. Now, after 26 years of waiting, Kristina has found her real family and is stepping into a new chapter of life — motherhood. On Instagram, she shared her feelings: “A little life is growing inside me. I’m happy, scared, grateful. Our new chapter is coming.”

This young woman proves that from the darkest beginnings, a bright future can emerge. Her message to everyone is clear: never give up on your dreams, because even those who have endured the toughest life circumstances can achieve their goals. Kristina is an example that a true family isn’t always the one you’re born into, but the one you choose and that accepts you.

If you thought stories about children from SOS villages were sad and hopeless, Kristina will prove you wrong. Her strength, courage, and determination to move forward inspire and remind us that every new beginning is possible. And now, as she awaits her first child, Kristina shows that true happiness comes when you least expect it.

So, what do you think? Is Kristina just one of many inspiring stories, or is her story something that should wake us all up? Share your thoughts — maybe your words will brighten someone’s day!
