Writer Salman Rushdie will testify at the trial of Hadi Matar, who is accused of attempting to murder Rushdie in 2022 in New York. Matar is charged with stabbing Rushdie 10 times in the stomach and neck but has pleaded not guilty. As a result of the attack, Rushdie lost sight in one eye and suffered nerve and liver damage. Matar, born in the USA with Lebanese citizenship, was allegedly influenced by radical Islamists during a visit to Lebanon in 2018. The trial will be held.
