Germany Still Filling Russia’s War Chest by Buying LNG Gas

Germany Still Filling Russia’s War Chest by Buying LNG Gas Worth Two Billion Euros!

Shocking Truth at the Heart of Europe

As the war in Ukraine intensifies, one of Europe’s most powerful countries – Germany – continues to fill Russia’s war chest! Yes, you read that right. A German state-owned company, SEFE (formerly Gazprom Germania), is buying huge amounts of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) this year worth over two billion euros.

How Does It Work?

Russian LNG is transported by massive tankers, each carrying about one million cubic meters of gas, worth around 40 million euros. These tankers continuously sail between Russia and EU ports including Dunkirk in France, Zeebrugge in Belgium, and Bilbao in Spain. Many of these tankers originally belonged to the Russian state shipping company Sovcomflot but are now mostly owned by Greek shipowners.

SEFE and Novatek – Putin’s Allies

SEFE is state-owned by Germany, and its main Russian partner is Novatek, a company operating LNG facilities in Siberia. Novatek is owned by oligarch Gennady Timchenko, known as a close associate of Vladimir Putin, who reportedly finances the Russian mercenary army Redut, active in Syria and Ukraine.

Criticism and Calls for Sanctions

The German environmental organization DUH sharply criticizes the import of Russian LNG and calls for a complete ban. Experts warn that revenues from LNG deliveries to Russia are at record levels and exceed the humanitarian aid Ukraine receives. Left-wing Bundestag member Christian Görke calls existing contracts “a plague and cholera” because they effectively allow printing money for the Russian military-industrial complex.

Why Doesn’t Germany Cancel the Contracts?

SEFE claims it is legally obliged to fulfill existing contracts with Russia and currently has no legal basis to terminate them. If it does not take the gas, it must pay for it, and Russia then resells it on the global market.

Sanctions That Don’t Exist

While Canada, the UK, and Australia have imposed sanctions on Novatek and its management, the EU has not. Therefore, the transport of Russian LNG by ships is allowed, and SEFE cannot terminate the contract.

How Much Money Goes to Russia’s War Chest?

Half of the revenue from LNG sales goes directly to the Russian state budget, which finances the war in Ukraine. This means Germany, by buying this gas, indirectly finances the aggression.

What Do Analysts Say?

Energy experts from Finland and Germany warn that Novatek is deeply connected to the Russian state and that LNG trade actively finances the war. The EU has announced plans to become independent of Russian energy by 2030 and plans to terminate existing contracts from January 1, 2024.

Conclusion – Germany at a Crossroads

Germany stands at a dangerous crossroads: continue filling Russia’s war chest or finally break dependence on Russian gas and show solidarity with Ukraine. As the war intensifies, the German government must not turn a blind eye and allow its contracts to finance war crimes.
