Marinko Rokvić, the legendary folk singer, and his wife Slavica spent nearly four decades together, but few know the real story behind their age difference and family secrets. Marinko was born in 1954, while Slavica is ten years younger, born in 1964 in Zagreb. Their love story began back in 1983 when they met, and shortly after, Marinko brought Slavica to Belgrade. The following year they got married and had a son Nikola, and two years later, another son Marko. Their children inherited their father’s musical talent, and the family remained inseparable until Marinko’s death in 2021 at the age of 68.
Although their marriage lasted decades, the age gap between Marinko and Slavica remained a secret to many. Last year, Slavica celebrated her milestone 60th birthday with a gala party at a famous Belgrade restaurant. Besides sons Nikola and Marko, Marinko also left behind an illegitimate son, Dario, with whom the brothers maintained a close relationship.
This family story reveals how love is stronger than age and how Marinko and Slavica built their world together despite all challenges. Their children continue the musical tradition, and Marinko’s memory lives on through their voices and the memories they left behind.
