EU DOESN’T NEED HUNGARY TO BLOCK UKRAINE: KOSTA FIRES UP POLITICIANS, VON DER LEYEN BACKS PROGRESS
Ready for another political drama in the EU? European Council President Antonio Costa just dropped a bombshell: “We don’t need Hungary to continue Ukraine’s EU accession process!” Yes, you read that right. While Hungary keeps hitting the brakes, Costa insists the EU can move forward without it — at least until the very end of negotiations, when all 27 member states must agree.
This statement is like tossing a grenade into the political pool. Hungary, notorious for blocking and slowing down the process, is basically sidelined while the EU pushes on supporting Ukraine’s reforms and integration. Costa made it clear he doesn’t see Poland’s presidency opening the first negotiation cluster as a failure — quite the opposite, it’s a big step forward.
VON DER LEYEN: UKRAINE DESERVES TO PROGRESS
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen didn’t hold back either. She loudly backed opening the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine, highlighting that Ukraine continues reforms even under constant shelling. “Ukraine has fulfilled its obligations, now it’s our turn,” von der Leyen said, making it clear the integration process should be merit-based.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
It means the EU wants to speed up Ukraine’s accession process without letting one country like Hungary hold the entire process hostage. Ukraine is at war, suffering huge losses, and the EU is determined to support it and bring it closer to European standards and values.
POLITICAL CHAOS OR BRAVE DECISION?
Of course, this won’t go without friction. Hungary will surely be mad, and it’s unclear how other countries will react. But one thing’s certain — the EU is sending a clear message: Ukraine is a priority, and internal disagreements won’t stop it.
THE FUN SIDE OF THINGS
Just imagine: Hungary is that annoying friend who always slows down plans, and the EU is the group saying, “Fine, we’re going without you, we don’t need you right now!” If this isn’t the perfect political soap opera, what is?
