Montenegro’s Political Scene: Enemies Instead of Opponents and the Danger of Polarization

Welcome to Montenegro, a country where political opponents are no longer just dissenters but enemies to be destroyed! Yes, you read that right. The political scene in Montenegro has become a battlefield of hatred, labeling, and speech that does not lead to dialogue but antagonism. Maja Nikolić from the association Responsible Sustainable Development Uzor clearly states that the lack of clear standards for good argumentation has opened the door to manipulation and double interpretations. Instead of rational political debate, it is saturated with exclusivism and hate speech, directly weakening the democratic capacity of society.

But wait, there’s more! Every attempt to introduce norms of good political communication or reform hate speech laws is seen as a police job and suppression of free speech. So how can we expect things to improve? Uzor proposes a set of recommendations: introducing norms of good political communication, reforming hate speech laws, strengthening media literacy, and developing mechanisms for early detection of rhetorical radicalization. But does anyone have the will to implement them?

Montenegro is on the brink of deeper polarization and institutional erosion. Instead of political actors being opponents fighting for ideas, they are enemies fighting to destroy each other. And us? We watch democracy slowly wither away. If you think this is exaggerated, think again. This is the reality we live in. And while the political scene turns into a no-rules fight ring, citizens remain caught between two fires.

If you have something to say about this political madness, feel free to drop a comment. Maybe together we’ll find a way out of this chaos or at least have a laugh before it all consumes us!
