Chaos at Vidovdan Protest in Belgrade: Students Attack Police, Clashes and Arrests

Tonight, Belgrade turned into a battlefield of chaos rarely seen! At the Vidovdan student protest on Slavija Square, which was officially declared over, brutal attacks on police officers erupted. Interior Minister Ivica Dačić didn’t hold back – “I strongly condemn the attacks on our police!” He stated that all participants will be prosecuted. Dačić emphasized that the police will use all their powers to restore order, and several demonstrators have already been arrested.

But let’s rewind to the start. The protest began peacefully, students gathered on Vidovdan, but tensions rose as the day went on. Students threw flares and firecrackers, and after the “student marshals” and war veterans pulled back their security line, chaos broke loose. Masked demonstrators attacked the gendarmerie, and police responded with tear gas. Clashes occurred at multiple locations, including King Alexander Boulevard and near the Turkish embassy, where flares and artillery-like firecrackers flew.

Croatian media described the situation as “chaos in Belgrade.” Some demonstrators covered their faces, and the clashes were so intense that some citizens raised their hands in the air while others threw flares. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić posted a video from Pioneer Park, praising the youth and expressing hope for calming the situation. However, it’s clear that tonight’s protest revealed how divided society is and how easily a peaceful gathering can turn into chaos.

If you thought protests were just boring gatherings, think again! Tonight in Belgrade showed that students and police can clash like in an action movie. So, what do you think – is this the start of something bigger or just another wild night in the capital? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s for peace and who’s for chaos!
