The American authorities have identified 55 of the 67 casualties in the collision between an American Airlines plane and a military helicopter over the Potomac River in Washington. An army engineering unit is preparing for the operation to retrieve the wreckage from the river. The recovered remains of the aircraft have been transferred to Ronald Reagan National Airport, while a part of the river has been closed to traffic. The airport is open, but two runways are closed, and helicopter flights are restricted. Investigators have found the black boxes.
