Ready for a football spectacle at Bled? Čukarički showed their teeth and defeated the third-placed team of the Slovenian championship, Koper, in their first friendly match of the preparations. Head coach Milan Lešnjak was visibly pleased – even though the result wasn’t the main focus, a win is always sweet.
Lešnjak revealed that he already knows the core of the team for the upcoming season and that the balance between youth and experience remains the key to success. Young players, who have come through Čukarički’s academy and spent years there, are getting their chance, but with the support of experienced players who are, above all, great people.
“It’s nice to have experienced players because they make our job easier and provide support to the youngsters who listen and learn,” says Lešnjak. Although Koper secured a spot in the Conference League qualifiers, Čukarički has not yet reached that level, but the focus is on the future and raising the level of play.
There was some nervousness, especially around refereeing decisions, but Lešnjak emphasizes that he likes pressure and does not allow players to react inappropriately.
