Dačić revealed last night that after violent protests, 77 people were detained, with 38 held in custody! Among them is a minor. Criminal charges will be filed against 35 individuals, and misdemeanor proceedings against 26. The police endured a nightmare — 48 officers were injured! This includes 38 gendarmes, 2 police brigade members, 7 intervention unit officers, and one operative. One policeman suffered severe head injuries, likely from a thrown stone. Much of the protective gear was destroyed or damaged. The violence started around 9:42 PM at the corner of Kneza Miloša and Krunska streets, when a group attacked police after stewards withdrew. Police had to respond with tear gas and baton strikes.
At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Intelligence Agency arrested six students suspected of planning to overthrow Serbia’s constitutional order. The suspects met at the Electrical and Civil Engineering faculties in Belgrade, allegedly planning attacks on state institutions and blocking key roads. They reportedly said that the demand for elections was just an excuse for violent regime change, as they wouldn’t win those elections. All suspects are held for 48 hours pending interrogation.
These two events cast a dark shadow over Serbia’s security situation. While shields break and stones fly on the streets, students face accusations of attempted coup. Is this the start of a new chaos wave or just the tip of the iceberg? Drop your thoughts below — maybe you’ve got the answer to this madness!
