In Belgrade, a group of students known as blockaders are being arrested for allegedly planning violent actions against state institutions. Four students from Belgrade, Niš, Zaječar, and Smederevo have been detained by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office for preparing attacks on the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the Government building, the Expo construction site, Andrićev Venac, Pionirski Park, and the Radio Television of Serbia building. They planned road blockades and other forms of civil disobedience aimed at violently changing the constitutional order. Meetings where these plans were discussed took place in the premises of the Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering faculties in Belgrade. Audio recordings broadcast on television last week and handed over to authorities clearly reveal how the students planned these attacks. During protests in Belgrade, police detained 77 people, including one minor, and 48 police officers were injured. After the failure of a violent gathering on Vidovdan, the blockaders started a mutual war on social media, and one of them gave a live interview on N1 just moments before attacking the police. This situation raises serious concerns about attempts to destabilize the state and disrupt public order. Got a hot take? Drop it somewhere — maybe your view will shake things up a bit.
