Seasonal jobs in hospitality and agriculture are the most sought after, with destinations like the Croatian coast and Greek islands, especially Halkidiki, attracting workers from Serbia and the region.
Where are the jobs and what’s in demand?
In Bačka Palanka and Vojvodina, agriculture has been the main sector for seasonal work for years. In western and southern Serbia, the situation is different – workers are needed for raspberry picking and weeding. However, this year the demand for seasonal workers is somewhat lower than last year.
Work permits: Croatia vs. Greece
Croatia has simplified the procedure for obtaining work permits for seasonal workers, with permits issued in about ten days. Greece, on the other hand, has a more complicated system – the employer first sends an invitation letter to the embassy, then the worker is called for an interview and must provide the necessary documentation, including certified papers. The procedure in Greece takes about two weeks.
Vouchers and agriculture
Croatia has been using a voucher system for seasonal workers for years, especially in agriculture and vineyards. This system facilitates hiring workers and better control over working conditions.
