Water polo fans, brace yourselves for a drama straight out of Budapest! Our “Dolphins” had a nightmare – finishing last in the Benu Cup with just three points, the same as Montenegro, but the “Sharks” won the head-to-head clash. To make matters worse, Hungary took the title with six points, while Spain had five.
In the final match, Serbia lost to Hungary 4-3 in a nail-biter. Our team struggled, especially in the second quarter, conceding four goals while scoring only one. The goal drought lasted exactly ten minutes, and the winning goal came from Burijan just three seconds before the final whistle.
Top scorer for us was Mandić with four goals, while Vico, Milojević, Lukić, and Ćuk added two each. For Hungary, Varga and Vigvari scored three each, with Fekete and Burijan adding two.
This failure is a slap in the face for Serbia, especially with the World Championship in Singapore coming up from July 11 to August 3. Will our “Dolphins” bounce back and show their true colors? Last place in Budapest is not a good sign.
While the water polo team struggles, other Serbian athletes keep the flag flying – Novak Djokovic lost an exhibition match to Russian Karen Khachanov, Serbian basketball players beat Puerto Rico in the World Cup quarterfinals in Mongolia, and our rowers won gold in Lucerne. But back to water polo – is this the beginning of the end or just a bad day for the “Dolphins”?
Got thoughts on this disaster or want to crack a joke about our “water heroes”? Drop a comment. Maybe it’s time to ask – what’s going on with Serbian water polo? Or just a rough patch? Either way, drama is guaranteed!
