Vidovdan 2023: Battle for Faith, Chaos in the Streets, and Injured Police Officers

Vidovdan 2023: Battle for Faith or Chaos in the Streets of Belgrade?

Vidovdan, a major Serbian holiday, did not pass quietly this year. Instead of prayers and remembrance of heroes, Belgrade became a battlefield of clashes and chaos. Miloš Vučević, president of the Serbian Progressive Party, didn’t hold back — he called the protests a “color revolution” and accused the blockers of giving the “green light” to bloodshed and riots.

Who’s Faithful and Who’s Not?

Vučević drew a clear line between those who are “faithful” and those who are “not.” According to him, Vidovdan revealed the true guardians of Serbia and those who are pro-Russian or against the state. After seven months of blockades and protests, the situation escalated into violence. A staggering 48 police officers were injured in clashes with demonstrators.

Riots and Violence in the Streets

The protests started peacefully but quickly spiraled into chaos. The blockades lasted for months, culminating last night in wild behavior by extremists. Police bore the brunt of angry demonstrators venting their frustration over what Vučević calls a “failed color revolution.” The streets of Belgrade turned into a battleground, leaving citizens shocked by the violence on Vidovdan.

The Army’s Role on Vidovdan – The Other Side of the Coin

While protests raged in Belgrade, a traditional religious procession took place in Kruševac. Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić participated in the litany honoring Kosovo heroes. This stark contrast — prayer and procession on one side, violence and clashes on the other — highlights deep divisions in society.

What Does Vidovdan 2023 Tell Us?

This year, Vidovdan was not just a religious holiday but a political battlefield. The division between “faithful” and “unfaithful,” street clashes, and injured police officers clearly show how fractured society is. Is this the start of a new phase of conflict or just another incident in a long series? One thing is certain — Vidovdan 2023 will be remembered for a long time.

So, are you on the side of “faith” or “unfaith”? Or maybe you think it’s all blown out of proportion? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s who in this crazy story!
