Vučić Hands Out Vidovdan Awards: Heroes or Just Another Political Show?

Vidovdan is the day Serbia celebrates its heroes, and President Aleksandar Vučić didn’t miss the chance to show it. At a grand ceremony in the Palace of Serbia on June 28, Vidovdan Awards were handed out to deserving individuals and institutions. Among the recipients were the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Radovan Višković, the President of the Montenegrin Parliament Andrija Mandić, and the prominent legal expert Vladan Petrov, a Constitutional Court judge and Serbian member of the Venice Commission.

Vučić emphasized that Vidovdan is a special day for Serbs, more important than any other holiday, symbolizing courage, sacrifice, and love for the homeland. “Vidovdan is woven from development, progress, suffering, and pain, but also from rising like a phoenix from the ashes,” the president said. He pointed out that Serbia today lives better than ever before, but Serbs are reluctant to admit it, being naturally skeptical of statistics and analyses.

The president stated that throughout history, Serbs won when they knew how much they were willing to sacrifice for their country, and lost when confused and uncertain. That’s why it’s important to recognize and reward those who loudly and clearly answer how much they love and are ready to sacrifice for Serbia.

This ceremony is not just about handing out awards but also a reminder of the responsibility and seriousness that laureates carry, as well as the path younger generations will follow. Vučić said that today, more than ever, it is crucial for Serbia to remain united and for everyone to fight together for its future.

Of course, as always, the question remains — are these heroes truly deserving, or is this just another political show? But hey, at least Vidovdan is a good excuse for a bit of patriotic spectacle, right? If you have thoughts on these awards or who really deserves recognition, feel free to drop a comment. Let the voice of the people be heard!
