North Macedonia Puts Former PM Gruevski’s Luxury Apartments Up for Sale: Scandal or Justice?
North Macedonia has stirred the pot by putting up for sale three luxury apartments of former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, worth a whopping 2.4 million euros! Yes, you read that right – three exclusive apartments in the elite “Panorama” complex on Vodno, with panoramic views and spacious balconies, are now up for public auction.
This property was confiscated in the infamous “Placevi Vodno” case, and the sale is conducted under a new law on managing confiscated property, effective since March 2023. The law is so strict that even family members of former owners are banned from participating in the auctions.
Besides these luxury apartments, two more apartments in Kisela Voda, where Gruevski lived before fleeing to Hungary (where he was granted asylum), are also for sale. One apartment of 57 square meters is offered at 63,000 euros, and another of 38 square meters at 44,000 euros.
For those unaware, Gruevski was sentenced to nine years in prison in the “TNT” case and previously received seven years for embezzling 1.3 million euros from VMRO-DPMNE, his political party.
This sale is seen as a symbolic and crucial step towards restoring trust in the rule of law in North Macedonia. But is this really the end of the story or just the start of a new political circus?
