Evening on Lake Ohrid turned into a real drama! Four people found themselves in trouble when their sailboat was damaged due to bad weather conditions, drifting about 2.5 kilometers from the shore opposite the Izvidnički campsite. Police officers from North Macedonia didn’t waste a second – they immediately headed out on an official speedboat to rescue the unlucky sailors.

The incident happened last night around 7:30 PM when the Border Control Police Station at Lake Ohrid received a report about a floating object with people asking for help. The four on the sailboat were in serious danger as part of the vessel was damaged and the weather was not on their side.

The police reacted quickly and safely transferred all individuals to the shore, specifically to the police station at the Studenčišta channel. The damaged sailboat was also pulled out of the lake, preventing a potential environmental disaster or a worse accident.

This incident shines a light on the dangers lurking on Lake Ohrid, especially when the weather turns bad. Are people cautious enough? Is the equipment adequate? The police showed they are ready, but is that enough?
