Hey folks, have you heard about the new wedding craze shaking up half of Serbia? The traditional custom of shooting an apple with a rifle to prove the groom’s precision and manliness has just gotten a modern, safer makeover. Forget about firing guns that could land you in legal trouble! Our clever compatriots have come up with a brilliant alternative — instead of a rifle, the groom now proves his skill by shooting a basketball into a hoop! Yes, you read that right — no more dangerous gunshots, just a friendly game of hoops.
But, as always, it’s not that simple. Some people cheer this innovation as a sign of progress and safety, while others laugh and lament that men have become wimps who can’t even hold a gun anymore. “What a bunch of country bumpkins!” shout some, while others say, “Thank God they got rid of the guns!”
Serbian law is crystal clear: shooting firearms for such purposes is a criminal offense, and if the groom doesn’t have a gun license, he could be charged with illegal possession. So this change is more than necessary.
But is tossing a basketball really the answer? Will this new tradition catch on, or will someone pull out a rifle again? And what about the old customs and their defenders?
One thing’s for sure — weddings in Serbia have never been boring! What do you think about this modernization? Are you for it or against it? Drop a comment, throw a ball, or maybe… take a look at the old customs and tell us what you think!
