Police Break Up Blockades in Belgrade: Arrests Made, Bridges Open, But Citizens Aren’t Backing Down!

Belgrade turned into a battlefield of chaos and traffic wars last night! Protesters, mostly students, decided to block key intersections and bridges across the city, and in other Serbian cities like Novi Sad, Čačak, Kragujevac, Niš, Šabac, Valjevo, Subotica, Zrenjanin, and Ruma. The police didn’t waste a second – early this morning they launched operations to break up the blockades, with arrests reported near the Faculty of Law and on Vojvode Stepe street. Videos of the arrests quickly spread on social media, sparking a storm of comments and reactions.

The Gazela and Brankov bridges are now open for traffic, and most main city roads are passable. However, public transport is still only partially running, with normalization expected in the coming hours. The protesters were organized in small groups, mostly students, blocking faculties and intersections, while citizens showed solidarity and support for their demands.

The blockades started first in Zemun, then spread to multiple locations in Belgrade and other cities. In Novi Sad, citizens withdrew the blockades but announced new gatherings in the afternoon. This situation clearly shows how tense society is, and the police response continues to stir controversy. Is this the start of a new era of protests or just another episode in the endless street conflicts? Only time will tell.

If you thought this was the end, think again! Stay tuned, because the fight for streets and rights seems far from over. So, what do you think? Are the students heroes or troublemakers? Drop a comment and let your voice be heard!
