Just when you think you’ve seen it all, life hits you with the worst surprise. Petar Mošić, the painter who won hearts and galleries worldwide, suddenly died at just 44 years old! Yes, you read that right – 44 years! So young, yet already a legend of the contemporary art scene. His death in Belgrade shocked friends, colleagues, and everyone who followed his work.
Petar was no ordinary artist. He completed his doctoral art studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade under the mentorship of Prof. Anđelka Bojović and left behind an impressive legacy: 20 solo exhibitions and over a hundred group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Igor BeloHlaVek recognition at the 65th October Salon in Šabac, the award for the theme “Ecce Homo” in Kranj, the painting award from the Momčilo Momo Kapor Foundation, and the Golden Palette at the Spring ULUS exhibition.
His art did not go unnoticed beyond Serbia’s borders. He actively participated in international art residencies such as the GloArt Foundation in Belgium and the International Summer Art Camp in Hungary. His works were showcased at prestigious art fairs, including the Affordable Art Fair in Amsterdam, where his pieces were among the best selected by a professional jury.
Petar was also a member of the Council of the Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade and collaborated with the National Museum of Rwanda, spreading artistic knowledge and culture. In an interview with Blic last year, he revealed that his dreams had come true – collaborations and exhibitions in foreign galleries he dreamed of 15 years ago had become reality.
But now that he’s gone, the question remains – who will carry on his mission? Who will raise the flag of contemporary art that he carried with such passion? His death is a loss not only for Serbia’s art scene but for the whole world that had the chance to witness his talent.
If you’ve ever seen his work, you know what we’re talking about. If not, now’s the time to get to know the artist who lived fast, created powerfully, and left too soon. So, what do you think – is the art world ready for a loss like Petar Mošić? Drop your thoughts, share your opinion, or just say – where are all those great artists when we need them most? Just so you know, this story is not for the faint-hearted!
