Police Finally Break Up Illegal Blockades in Serbia: Street Chaos Ends!

Chaos on Serbia’s Streets: Police Smash Illegal Blockades and Restore Order!

At 6 AM this morning, a small group of blockers decided to bring life in Čačak to a screeching halt by blocking two major intersections. Imagine this – tires, containers, obstacles everywhere! Luckily, the police didn’t just stand by. They acted fast and removed all barricades, including those near the former Moravica café and the main city bridge over the Western Morava River. Traffic is back to normal, and the blockers are left standing on the sidewalks like defeated warriors.

But wait, there’s more! In Zemun, police also cleared a morning blockade on the main street. Social media videos show traffic flowing again while the blockers stand helpless. The night before, blockades were even fiercer – in Belgrade and other cities, students blocked bridges and roads using containers and fences. All this was in support of those arrested over incidents following protests.

Overnight, police removed all barricades in Belgrade, and traffic normalized in other cities as well. Interventions also took place on Dušanova Street in the Stari Grad municipality and in Novi Sad, where students blocked faculties and intersections. Even the main road near Užice was blocked this morning, but blockers ended their action around 4 AM.

Minister Obradović made it clear: “Every police unit is equipped with cameras, and the violent offenders will be held accountable!” Ljiljana Stanišić added that placing containers at intersections must no longer be tolerated. Kurir TV reported that traffic in Belgrade is flowing freely, and public transport is running on its usual routes.

This situation sparked heated reactions. Some say police intervention was necessary to stop the chaos and public space usurpation, while others wonder how long the tensions will last and if street violence will become the new normal. Šešelj even compared these blockades to the violent gatherings of October 5, claiming the blockers were bribed.

One thing is clear: the state is determined to regain control of the streets. But will this be the end of the blockades or just a pause before the next round of clashes? Time will tell.

What do you think about these blockades and police actions? Are the students heroes or hooligans? Drop a comment, let your voice be heard – or at least let’s have a laugh together at this urban chaos!
