Consumer Protection Council Drama!
Did you hear? Mirna Nikčević will NOT be a member of the Consumer Protection Council! The government made a decision that sparked a storm of comments and reactions across Montenegro. Instead of her, Prof. Dr. Miloš Vukčević, an expert expected to bring fresh energy to this important body, will take her place.
Why was Nikčević ousted?
The reason is clear and cannot be ignored. SNP deputies loudly said NO to her appointment. Why? Because Nikčević has publicly shown religious intolerance in the past, which is absolutely unacceptable for someone who is supposed to protect the rights of all consumers, regardless of their faith.
Deputies Bogdan Božović and Slađana Kaluđerović clearly stated that people with such views should not hold positions that require public trust and responsibility towards all citizens. They are not against people having jobs, but insist that appointment criteria be based on expertise, integrity, and respect for the fundamental values of society.
What does this mean for us consumers?
The government’s decision to remove Nikčević and appoint Vukčević could be a sign that things in the Consumer Protection Council are finally moving in the right direction. Consumers deserve to be represented by people who respect all citizens and will fight for their rights without prejudice.
What’s next?
This situation is just the tip of the iceberg. While political games are played behind the scenes, consumer rights often remain neglected. Will the new Council member, Prof. Dr. Miloš Vukčević, manage to bring the needed changes? Or will he just be another pawn in the political chess game?
Conclusion
It’s clear Montenegro must pay attention to who holds power positions, especially when it comes to protecting consumer rights. Religious intolerance and unprofessionalism have no place in institutions meant to protect the rights of all citizens. The government’s decision to oust Mirna Nikčević and appoint Miloš Vukčević is a step many will welcome, but the question remains – will it be enough?
What do you think? Did Nikčević deserve to be ousted or is this just another political game? Drop a comment, let the people’s voice be heard!
