Montenegro Finally Opens Applications for Financial Support to Former Wood Industry Workers – But Is It Too Late?
Did you know that Montenegro has finally started accepting applications for financial support for former workers in the wood processing and forestry industry? Yes, you read that right! After years of struggles and bankruptcies in this sector, the government has decided to at least try to ease the burden on those left jobless.
Who is eligible for this support?
The right to financial support is granted to former employees of state-owned companies in the wood processing industry whose employment was terminated due to bankruptcy. But that’s not all – to qualify, applicants must meet several conditions:
- They must have obtained pension rights after the bankruptcy was introduced, or
- They must not have started employment with another employer since the bankruptcy date, and
- They must not have received funds from social programs or severance pay before the law came into effect.
How to apply?
Applications opened today, with a 90-day deadline for submission. Required documentation must be submitted in original or certified copies in written form to the address Rimski trg 46, Podgorica. For more information, applicants can contact Goran Đalović, Nemanja Karović, or Bojana Malidžan.
Why does this matter?
The wood processing industry has been a backbone of Montenegro’s economy for decades, employing thousands. Bankruptcies and the collapse of companies have left many workers unemployed and insecure. This financial support is the government’s first serious step to help these people, but is it enough and will it come in time?
A problem that has lasted for years
The law was adopted on June 12, but the sector’s problems have been ongoing for much longer. Many workers have waited years for any assistance while their rights and livelihoods were at risk. Will this measure be just a drop in the ocean of problems or the start of real change?
What do the workers say?
Many former employees are skeptical. “It’s good that something is being done, but we waited too long. Many of us are already in a tough spot,” says one worker who wished to remain anonymous.
Conclusion
Montenegro has finally taken the first step toward solving the problems of former wood industry workers. But the question remains whether this financial support will be sufficient and timely enough to help those who need it most.
If you or someone you know is affected by this issue, maybe it’s time to join the conversation. What do you think about this support? Has the government done enough? Share your thoughts – maybe your story could spark real change!
