Heatwave Hits Europe: Hell on Earth or Just Another Summer?

Welcome to hell on earth, also known as summer 2024! While Zagreb’s first day of July was painted in beautiful shades of orange and pink, the thermometers showed something far less romantic – temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius. But it’s not just Zagreb feeling the burn! The entire Europe is roasting under a heatwave that’s breaking records left and right. France has issued a record number of heat warnings, while Spain and Portugal recorded the hottest June days ever – with temperatures hitting a scorching 46 and even 46.6 degrees Celsius in Andalusia and central Portugal! Emergency services are on high alert, and citizens are advised to stay indoors and drink plenty of water.

In Split, where temperatures reached 33 degrees, the Bačvice beach was packed as people desperately sought relief. Meanwhile, scientists warn that sea temperatures in the western Mediterranean in June were a staggering 5 degrees above average, a disaster for marine life. Greece has already issued wildfire risk warnings, and Italy, Portugal, Spain, and other southern European countries are on the brink of collapse due to extreme weather conditions.

Tragically, the heatwave has already claimed lives – a two-year-old child died in Spain after being left in a car at 37 degrees, where temperatures inside the vehicle soared above 50 degrees. A similar incident occurred in France last week. This is not just heat; it’s a life-threatening emergency!

Serbia and Montenegro are also expecting temperatures up to 35 and 37 degrees, with meteorologists warning of possible winds and cloudiness. All in all, Europe is melting, and we’re left wondering – how long will this last? Is this just the start of the new normal, or will we soon see cities turning into deserts?

If you’re already sweating just reading this, you’re not alone. But hey, maybe it’s time we all ask – where are our air conditioners, where are our coolers, and why is no one talking about real solutions? Got any survival hacks for this hellish heat? Share them in the comments, maybe you’ll save someone from heatstroke!
