Danas Journalism School: Opportunity or Illusion for Young Journalists?

Welcome to the Danas Journalism School – where young journalists’ dreams crash headfirst into reality! For the fifth year in a row, the Danas editorial team is opening doors to about ten brave students and beginners eager to peek behind the media curtain. But is this school really a golden ticket into journalism, or just another illusion?

The program lasts four months, starting September 1st, with one month of theory and three months of practice. The theory part includes 15 lectures, each three hours long, led by experienced Danas journalists and editors. Participants learn how to write news, reports, and also how to navigate online journalism, social media, and audience research. Sounds great, right?

But the real magic happens in the practical part, where participants get to work in the Danas newsroom, in sections matching their interests. This means daily real tasks, deadline pressure, and professional demands. Although the school is co-financed by the Serbian government budget, which sounds like state support for young talent, the question remains: how much does this practice really open doors to employment?

History shows that most previous participants found jobs immediately in media, either at Danas or other newsrooms. But is that the rule or the exception? And how fierce is the competition? Applications are open until July 15th, with selection completed by August 15th. If you’re ready to fight for a spot, prepare your CV and motivation letter and send them by email.

Danas, founded in 1997 by former Borba journalists, is known for its fight for truth and objectivity, often under government pressure. This school is their way to keep journalism alive and relevant. But is that enough in the era of digital media and fake news?

If you’ve ever dreamed of a journalism career, Danas Journalism School might be your chance. But remember – not all that glitters is gold, and the journalism world is full of challenges. So, what do you think? Is this school really a ticket into the media world or just another step in the endless job race? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, or tell a journalism story – let’s bust myths and find the real deal together!
