The World is Burning, Yet We Spend on Wars Instead of the Future! Vučić in Seville on Development Financing and Climate Change

The fourth United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development kicked off in Seville, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić did not hold back. While the world is engulfed in crises, wars, and climate change, Vučić bluntly stated that too much is being spent on military budgets and too little on the future.

“Everyone invests five percent of their military budgets, but no one wants to admit how much that actually costs. Everything else that is needed for the future is neglected,” Vučić said, adding that more electricity is consumed in summer than in winter, yet no new energy capacities are being built.

Vučić criticized international meetings and summits, saying he has never seen serious results but hopes this conference will bring change. He emphasized the need to resolve all outstanding issues to avoid even bigger crises in the future.

About 150 countries are present at the conference, with one of the key topics being the adoption of the so-called Seville compromise, which foresees increasing social protection coverage by 2% annually, an obligation advocated by the International Labour Organization.

Vučić met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in Seville and attended a dinner hosted by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.

As the world burns from climate change and wars, Vučić reminds us that we are spending on the wrong things. Will we finally realize it’s time for change, or will we keep watching our future slip away?

What do you think? Is this just another conference full of talk and no action? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s ready for a revolution and who’s fine with the same old circus!
