Contract Signed for Glassmaking Museum in Paraćin: Cultural Revolution or Money Down the Drain?

Contract Signed for Glassmaking Museum in Paraćin: Cultural Revolution or Money Down the Drain?

Have you heard about the new project shaking Paraćin? No, it’s not a new factory or a sports stadium, but a GLASSMAKING MUSEUM! Yes, you read that right – glass! And not just any glass, but the kind that once lifted Paraćin up alongside the textile industry.

Huge Money for Glass?

The government and local authorities have teamed up to invest over 110 million dinars in this project. The Ministry of Culture contributed 13 million dinars this year alone, with total investments exceeding 110 million dinars! Is that too much for a single museum? Some say yes, but officials claim this is a project of national importance.

Why Glass?

Paraćin was once famous for glassmaking – producing crystal, optical glass, tobacco glass… Now they want to preserve that tradition and showcase it to the world. The museum will be located on a previously neglected site, turning it into a cultural hub that will attract tourists, especially those passing through Corridor 10.

Criticism and Doubts

While it sounds like a great idea, many wonder if the investment is justified. Will the museum really attract visitors? Or is this just another example of money being wasted on projects that may not have long-term benefits? Paraćin is not a big city, and investing over 110 million dinars is a huge sum for the local community.

What Do Officials Say?

Nikola Selaković from the Ministry of Culture emphasizes that this is one of the most significant projects under the ‘Cities in Focus’ program and that investments have been ongoing for four consecutive years. The mayor of Paraćin, Vladimir Milićević, expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted that the museum will preserve the rich history of glassmaking and be a source of pride for Paraćin.

When Will the Museum Be Ready?

The plan is for the museum to be ready by 2025. Until then, works on hydrotechnical, electrical, and telecommunication installations are expected. Overall, a promising project but one that raises questions.

Cultural Revolution or Money Down the Drain?

While some celebrate the preservation of tradition and investment in culture, others question whether this is a smart investment or just another example of money being spent without a clear plan. What do you think? Will the Glassmaking Museum in Paraćin become a new cultural gem or just an expensive building?

Share your thoughts – maybe you have the idea that will make this project truly shine!

Culture is important, but smart investments are even more so. Who knows, maybe this museum will change everything – or at least look great on Instagram.
