Belgrade Blockades: Police, Threats, and Civil Disobedience in a Chaos Whirlpool

Belgrade was a scene of chaos last night like rarely seen before! Road blockades, overturned trash bins, flower pots on the streets — all in the name of protests that escalated into full-blown civil disobedience. The police had their hands full — they removed barricades from all key points, arrested 23 protesters, and four officers were injured in clashes. Although traffic in most parts of the city normalized by morning, a blockade on the main street in Zemun still persists, and public transport was halted overnight.

But that’s not all! Death threats against the police appeared on social media, which the Belgrade Public Prosecutor’s Office took seriously and opened a case to identify and prosecute those responsible. The police denied claims that they forcibly entered the Law Faculty premises, emphasizing respect for the university’s autonomy while removing blockades.

This wave of civil disobedience has been ongoing for months, with blockades spreading to other Serbian cities like Novi Sad, Niš, and Novi Pazar. Arrests and incidents have become daily occurrences, and citizens have found new ways to express their dissent — from repeatedly crossing pedestrian crossings to leaving trash in front of ruling party offices.

The police and authorities are desperately trying to maintain control, while citizens refuse to back down from their demands for change. Will Aleksandar Vučić finally respond and call elections? Or will the clashes continue until a total collapse? One thing is certain — Belgrade and Serbia are engulfed in the flames of popular discontent, and this drama is just beginning.

If you think this is just another ordinary protest, think again. This is a fight for the country’s future, and the streets have become a battlefield between the people and the government. And while the police strive to restore order, citizens send a clear message: there is no turning back!

What do you think? Are the blockades justified or over the top? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, and don’t just be a bystander in this fiery story!
