Shock and Tragedy on Greek Beaches: 80-Year-Old Serbian Man Drowns Near Katerini!

Is summer really a time for fun or danger? Sadly, for an 80-year-old Serbian man, summer turned into a tragedy on a beach in the Pieria region near Katerini, Greece. He was pulled from the water conscious, a lifeguard gave him first aid, and he was then rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Katerini, where he was admitted to intensive care. Unfortunately, he passed away in the early morning hours, according to Greek media.

This is not an isolated incident. Just the day before, near Kavala, an 85-year-old Greek citizen was found unconscious on a beach, highlighting the seriousness of the situation on Greek beaches this summer.

The investigation is being conducted by the third port department of Skala Katerini, the central port authority of Thessaloniki, showing how seriously authorities are taking these incidents.

Why are these tragedies happening?

Greek beaches are a favorite destination for many tourists, including older people seeking peace and sun. However, age and possible health issues can be deadly factors in the water. Lifeguards are heroes who often manage to react in time, but sometimes even that is not enough.

What can we learn?

These tragedies remind us that caution is necessary, especially for older swimmers. Never underestimate the power of the sea and your own limits. Also, emergency medical services and rescue teams must be ready and efficient, which was the case here, but unfortunately, it was not enough.

Has summer become dangerous?

While we enjoy the sun and sea, we must not forget that nature can be ruthless. These tragedies are a warning to all of us to be careful and not take too many risks, especially if we are older or have health problems.
